Mosel Valley

Liora and Yolanda visit the beautiful Mosel Valley in Germany, searching for tasty wines. This region is known for its white wines, and in particular Riesling wine. Will Michelin-chef Harald Russel succeed in cooking three meals that match the qualities of each wine?

Winery - Weingut Dr.Loosen

  • The Loosen family has been growing Riesling and producing wine in the Mosel Valley for over 200 years. The current owner, Ernst “Erni” Loosen, assumed ownership in 1988, embarking on a quest to greatly improve the quality and international reputation of the estate, the Mosel region, and Riesling in general. Today, Erni is one of the most iconic and influential winemakers in the world.

A full range of Riesling styles is produced, following the traditions of both family lines: dry wines from the paternal Loosen side, and PrĂ€dikat wines inspired by the maternal branch (the PrĂŒm family). Steep slopes of the Middle Moselle.

Winery - Fio Wines Nieuwpoort Kettern

  • This estate is a joint venture connecting two families: the Kettern family, who have been making wine in the Mosel for several hundred years, and the Niepoort family, led by Dirk Niepoort.

The Niepoort name is famous in Portugal and now across the world for Dirk’s pioneering work making dry table wines from the Douro River valley, an area best known for fortified Port wine.

Winery - Van Volxem

  • Following the long tradition of Van Volxem, their wines are mostly dry – thought of as a harmonious meal companion, moderate in alcohol, ripe in acidity, dense, and complex in structure. Their wines’ uniqueness is shaped by the barren, mineral-rich slate soils of our steep slopes, themselves relics of millions of years old sea deposits.

The Van Volxem style is characterized by the striving for balance and harmony in the glass. Animating wines from a unique location and with great aging potential – in the style of the famous Imperial Saar wines
